Split
Rock Trail is located on the mountain within the Wintergreen Resort,
a four-season resort that offers skiing,
golfing,
hiking, and a newly renovated Spa
and Fitness center. For parents traveling with children, Wintergreen
also offers a variety of activities and programs for children; visit
the resort's website for additional information on its family
and children programs and its Out
of Bounds Adventure Center. While
Split Rock Trail offers a fully-equipped kitchen, there are several
restaurants on the mountain offering a wide selection of dining
options.
Split
Rock Trail is approximately 3 miles from the Mountain Inn and 2
miles from the Wintergarden Spa and is just minutes from all of
the Resort's amenities. Please note that although the house is located
within the Wintergreen Resort, the fee for access to the resort
amenities is not included in the price of the rental. However, we
offer passes to our guests that provide a 10% discount off of recreation
rack rates (e.g., lift tickets, tubing, and the entry fee to the
fitness and aquatics center). We encourage you to call the Wintergreen
Resort (www.wintergreenresort.com)
to compare their rates and packages so that you can choose the best
option for your group.
Surrounding
Areas
In
addition to the Resort Amenities, there are numerous activities
and shopping areas that offer the basic necessities close by.
On
The Mountain: Located near the Mountain Inn, the Black
Rock Market sells basic groceries and sundries, including wine and
beer, and several newspapers. The Black Rock Market also rents videos
and sells gas.
Nellysford:
Approximately 20 minutes from Split Rock Trail, along Rt. 151, you
will find the Valley Green Shopping Center, a small strip-mall containing
an IGA super market, an Italian deli (the deli delivers to the resort),
a few stores, including gift and craft shops, and relatively new
restaurant, MC2 (Mossy Creek Cafe). The Center also includes the
Valley Video store, which sells used books. A little further South
on 151 (toward the Resort) is Basic Necessities, a small restaurant
which sells home-made bread, a variety of wines, and serves lunch
and dinner in their limited space. (call for reservations to ensure
a table), a True Value Hardware store, and the Blue Ridge Pig, a
barbeque restaurant that seats only a few people at a time.
Waynesboro:
About half an hour from our house in Wintergreen, Waynesboro
offers restaurants, ranging from fast food to sit down. Waynesboro
also has several large grocery stores, such as Kroger and Food Lion,
a Super Walmart, and Home Depot.
Charlottesville:
For those who wish to travel a little farther from the mountain,
Charlottesville,
home of the University of Virginia, is about an hour from our house
in Wintergreen. Not too far from Charlottesville, you can find tours
of the homes of Thomas Jefferson, Woodrow Wilson, and James Madison,
as well as Civil War battlefields. The city also offers the "Downtown
Mall" (with specialty shops and restaurants), an ice skating
rink, and a movie theater complex.
For a list of some additional area attractions, including local
vineyards, you can visit the Area
Attractions section of the Wintergreen Resort website. You can
also visit the official website for Nelson County (www.nelsoncounty.info),
which describes places to go in Nelson County.
